Program

Since SGU was established in 2004, the organization has been a volunteer-operated veteran’s non-profit organization. The Board of Directors and its members have been serving and participating in the lives of the SGU veterans and their families and veterans-related community events.

Through SGU’s advocacy work at the 2023 Minnesota Legislative Session, the organization was able to secure state funding to support 3 initiatives that are important to the veterans and the community. Through these programs, we hope to better our services to support them.

SGU seeks your donation and support to build a future museum to share and preserve the Hmong SGU veterans and their families’ stories, photographs, artifacts, and the Hmong experience from Laos to the State of Minnesota.

In this Oral History Recording Project, SGU is looking to collect, record, and archive 50 Hmong SGU veterans and widows’ oral stories here in the State of Minnesota.

SGU is looking for Hmong SGU veterans, widows, and descendants in Minnesota to participate in our mental wellness program.

SGU will be providing links to resources that could be useful and informative to the veterans.

The Hmong and Lao Commemorative Memorial Statue was built in 2016 at the MN State Capitol Grounds to honor the service and sacrifice of the veterans during the war.

This preservation project documented 23 stories - including veterans, widows, and orphans - from the Secret War in Laos, and was presented on November 11, 2023 in St. Paul, MN.
