Vang Sue (“Paul Nao Sue”) was born in Nam Song, Mouang Nga District, Xieng Khouang Province, Laos in 1951. His parents passed away when he was a child, leaving him in the care of his older siblings. He started learning from a school that was set up at the military quarters in his hometown. In 1963, he traveled to the USAID medical center in Sam Thong to continue his education. Vang also learned English and took technical courses in telecommunication. Then he was recruited as a SGU soldier to work as a telegrapher during the Secret War. After the war concluded in 1975, Vang knew the communists would go after him for his work for the Americans. Then he took his family to hide in the jungle of Laos. They eventually made it to Thailand and departed to the US. ∆
