Xai Chou Xiong was born in Nong Het, Laos in 1955. As a child, he received an elementary education. In 1970, he was recruited into the SGU and joined Group Mobile (GM) 23. In 1972, he was sent to Bouam Long and fought in one of the fiercest battles of the entire war. After the war concluded in 1975, Xai Chou and his family went into the jungle of Laos to escape persecution. Almost all of his family members were killed in an enemy attack. He survived and made the treacherous journey to the refugee camps in Thailand in 1980. In 1986, he and the surviving members of his family immigrated to Minnesota. He went into vocational school and received his diploma. He was unsuccessful in finding employment for several years. Then he spent the next 20 years working for the Water Gremlin Company. ∆
