“Treating war scars”
———————————

There was a young man that an airplane transported him alone. He was 17 years old. It seemed he was hiding in the jungles when a grenade exploded and hit him on the forehead. His forehead skin peeled back. He was so scared though and would not come out. Flies laid so many eggs on his forehead and you could see liquid and blood streaming down onto his cheeks and eyes. That day the airplane transported him there. All the providers had left to eat – it was Saturday and there was only myself left. I was in the emergency. He said, ‘Doctor, please help me. I can’t open my eyes.’ I used a force to pull back his forehead skin and there were maggots piled up like a ball of rice. I grabbed some liquid medicine and poured it. There was a crackling noise because the maggots froze and made a noise. I poured it into a bucket. When the doctors arrived, they said to put him to sleep and to not sew stitches. We have to keep washing him and treat him with medicine until his skin is renewed then we can stitch it.
